When people think of catfishing some people might think of an
actual fish and others might actually look at it as a term in which people use
to explain that someone is using someone else’s identity on the internet. A
person always thinks of the person that is doing the catfishing and others of
the person that is being catfished, but no one really takes into consideration
to the person who’s images are being used to do the catfishing.
Unfortunately, I can relate to the people from this certain
point of view. My images were stolen from my Instagram to create a whole
different account to my name. I first found out about it through one of my best
friends. She sent me the screenshot of this account and I was speechless. A
chuckle just came out of me, not so much because it was funny but because I was
nervous of what was going to happen or what was already happening. It made me
question my reputation, privacy, and my friendships.
In the movie Catfish at
the end of the film there is this picture of Neve with the city of New York
behind him. The picture was taken from an odd angle. It was either the person
purposely lifted the camera or they were just taller than Neve. The way it was
angled makes the city look overwhelmingly huge compared to Neve’s head. I think
the city represents the world, not just the world but the internet world
against Neve. The internet is huge, social media is huge and almost everyone
uses it. Ultimately, you don’t know what’s out there in the internet of
you. You don’t know what’s real or who’s real. An image of this beautiful girl was used to catfish Neve and
that makes me wonder, what if my image is being used somewhere else in this
world and I have no idea about it. I’ll never know.
I like the way you analyzed the picture of Nev at the end of the movie. I personally never thought about the picture that deeply. it makes sense how the city behind him is huge and it possibly representing the internet and how it itself is huge and we really do not know what all is out there. This was definitely an interesting point!
