social networking to texting, and even emailing, throughout the documentary Catfish it
showed exactly how its all done. Catfish synthesized in a way that showed how one could easily
hide their identity through multiple communication methods and how creative a ones mind could be.
In that movie it showed a lady with multiple personalities and people to create this person she wishes
to be. Throughout the documentary Nev who was talking to a lady Megan through social media
showed a lot on how easy it is for someone to easily get hooked and attached to a virtual person. The
documentary showed a lot as far as why people hide their identity and at the same time raises a lot of
questions on the basis of social media and how trustworthy is it in reality.
Hidden identity isn't something that just started a couple of years ago its something that became
more popular overtime with less challenges for the imposer. Sherry Turkle an author that explains in
her book how things such as not only social media and cellphones are used to hide identity, robots
before were used to help people be someone who they wish to be such as robot making a normal
person seem as though they are the most wonderful person. a prime example is when Turkle
explained how robots were used to comfort people who felt lonely or give that longed yearned for
attraction. Robots then actually in my opinion also help people find who they were and learn more
about themselves which ultimately revealed their true identity in which were hidden to them.
Overall hidden identity is something that almost everybody goes through sometime in life we are
not born knowing who we are and what we want to do in life hence is why trying new things and
learning about them is a huge encouragement among society. Some people it may take longer to find
they are and others life hits them quick and hard making them pass up who they want to be which
alternatively makes them substitute by finding away to live out who they want to be through other
ways like social networking, texting, or even robots.
Mychael,
ReplyDeleteHidden identity is something I think is a major issue in our technological world today. Many times it can be observed that people are uncomfortable with who they are as a person, and therefore try to imitate someone else. It is unfortunate that we all can't be accepting of every person's uniqueness. Our personalities and traits make us our own person. We should be confident rather than embarrassed, and I blame a lot of the problem on mainstream media and other advertising sources.
